Gary Johnson scored his debut Isle of Man TT victory in the second Supersport race on Thursday, although controversy over mistaken red flags surrounds the podium placings

Gary Johnson achieved his first Isle of Man TT victory when the Broughton racer won the postponed Monster Energy Supersport 2 race on Thursday afternoon over fellow Honda rider John McGuinness. Johnson had been showing impressive speed all through practice, and actually finished in third place on original time in the first Supersport race on Tuesday, only to be penalized 30 seconds for exceeding the pit lane speed limit, which dropped him to fourth place overall. This time there were no such question marks, as Johnson controlled the race from start to finish. There was some controversy over the remaining podium placings however, as a red flag was reportedly incorrectly shown at a couple of sections on the third lap, causing many riders to slow their pace until they’d determined that the race was not being stopped.
