Costa Mesa, CA - June 15, 2011
Round 3 of the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship series took place last weekend at the beautiful High Point Raceway track in Mt Morris, PA. Despite a strong rain storm prior to the start of the second moto, a great crowd and beautiful weather welcomed the racers for the 35th Anniversary of the High Point National.
After finishing 6thoverall at the opening round of the season at Hangtown and 2ndat the following race in Texas, AGV's Davi Millsaps came to High Point with strong determination and confidence, feeling healthier and stronger than in the past months since his kidney injury.
In the first Moto Davi came out of the gate mid-pack and charged hard until the checkered flag, having some hard fought battles along the way for a successful 3rdplace finish.
Right before the start of Moto 2, heavy rain fell on the High Point track, turning it into a sloppy and very muddy battlefield. Millsaps had a better start than in Moto 1, coming out in the leading group of 6 riders, quickly fighting for another podium finish. Due to the very difficult conditions, the #18 had to drop his goggles early making it very difficult to see due to the heavy mud roosts. After a heavy crash towards the end of the race, Davi managed to come back to 9th, going 5th overall for the day.
In view of the very challenging conditions of Moto 2, Millsaps managed to score very valuable points at in Mt Morris, leaving Pennsylvania in 4th place in the point standing, 7 points behind 3rd.
Next round takes place at Budds Creek, MD on June 18th.
