Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki Takes the Win at Thunder Valley Motocross

Ryan Dungey dominates the 450 class and claims his first overall win of the season - News Release
Lakewood, CO (June 25, 2011) - A huge crowd was on hand to witness and help celebrate as Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki's Ryan Dungey scored his first overall victory of the season at the Thunder Valley National in Lakewood, CO, the fifth round of the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross Championship. Both Dungey and teammate Brett Metcalfe put their Yoshimura-equipped Suzuki RM-Z450s to the test in the grueling, high altitude conditions in Lakewood. Dungey rode two great races, claiming a second and first to come away with the overall win. Metcalfe once again had to work his way through the pack in both motos to grab a seventh-place overall finish for the day.

Dungey was strong from the get-go in Colorado. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider qualified with the second fastest time and had great starts in both motos. In moto one, Dungey was tight with the front group and in fourth place after lap one. By lap three, he was able to pull into third and put his head down to power his RM-Z after second. At lap nine, he made the pass for second, but by that time, the leader had built a pretty large gap and he had to settle for a second-place finish. In moto two, Dungey launched his RM-Z450 out of the gate and quickly into second. By lap three, he was able to pass for the lead and never looked back, claiming the second moto win and overall victory for the day. Dungey remains third in the championship points race but picked up a valuable seven points from the leader.
"It means a lot to get this win," said Dungey. "We're five rounds in and I wish it could have come earlier, but that's racing. I have to give it up for Team Rockstar Makita Suzuki; we've all been working our butts off. This win feels really good - I'd like to keep continuing it. My RM-Z450 was awesome. I want to thank the man above and my whole family - It feels good to get this one. I'm looking forward to Redbud. It's a great track and one of my favorites. I was able to pull off wins in both motos there last year. Hopefully we have a little momentum from this one and I can pull off a couple more."
Teammate Brett Metcalfe started the day with the fourth fastest time in qualifying. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider suffered a bad start and a tip over in the first moto but was able to use the power of his RM-Z to work from near the back of the field to card a ninth-place finish. In moto two, Metcalfe had a better start but got caught up in a turn two incident and again had to work his way up from near the back. The Rockstar Makita Suzuki rider rode solid and put in some great laps to cross the line in seventh, which was good enough to give him a seventh-place overall for the day. Metcalfe sits sixth in the championship points but just one point out of fifth and four points out of fourth.

"It was a pretty good weekend in Colorado," said Metcalfe. "Riding-wise, I was happy. I had a bad start and a small crash in the first moto. I was just really far back and Thunder Valley is a technical track. And with the altitude, the bikes are slower, so it's really difficult to make up time. Unfortunately, not a good result with a ninth, but from where I came from, my riding was good. The second moto I got a much better start, but I got caught up in a bit of a pileup in the second corner, so I ended up at the back again. I was pretty frustrated, but I rode good that second moto and my Rockstar Makita Suzuki was working great. My team made some adjustments that really helped me in the second moto. I'm looking forward to Redbud. Everyone likes Redbud - It's an awesome track and I feel really comfortable on the bike now and feel strong. I really need to get the starts there and give myself a chance to run up front."
The Rockstar Makita Suzuki team's next event is the sixth round of the 2011 AMA Pro Motocross Championship on Saturday, July 2nd, at the Rockstar Energy Drink Redbud National in Buchanan, MI.

2011 24 Hours of Nrburgring: Off to a wet, make that dry, let's just say moist start
Filed under: Motorsports, Racing

The green flag at 2011 24 hours of Nürburgring dropped this afternoon with a field of 198 qualifying cars racing down a damp front straight. After qualifying under a variety of weather conditions (it hailed at one point yesterday) and a light drizzle falling on the grid during staging, the teams scrambled to mount slicks as the track started to dry moments before the race - many teams sliced grooves by hand for an extra bit of grip on the still-drying surface.
The starting grid was led by a Ferrari 458 Italia with a pair of Mercedes-Benz SLSs in slot two and three. After a little more than seven hours of running, the skies remain overcast but the track is dry (the sun went down nearly two hours ago). The current standings:
- 30 Mame/Hahn/Kaff 47 8:56.368

Baggett Grabs RC Hard Charger at Budds Creek

Blake Baggett Overcomes First-Lap Misfortune to Receive
Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award at Budds Creek - MX Sports News Release
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (June 22, 2011) - Just one week after claiming his second overall victory in the 2011 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki's Blake Baggett has been awarded the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award for Budds Creek.
Looking for his third win in four rounds at Budds Creek, Baggett hoped to reduce the deficit that faced him in the 250 Class standings. The sophomore rider started his day in Southern Maryland by posting the fastest lap in 250 Class practice.
In the first moto, Baggett came across the line in 10th place on the opening lap, eventually working his way into seventh at the finish. In Moto 2, a better start out of the gates put Baggett in contention to challenge at the front of the field. However, a crash on the opening lap dropped him to 34th at the line.
For the remainder of the next 16 laps, Baggett displayed impressive tenacity, working his way through the field in rough track conditions. With one of the deepest fields of talent in the history of the 250 Class, Baggett had his work cut out for him and ultimately passed 27 riders in the moto to post an impressive seventh-place effort and secure seventh overall for the day.

Baggett passed 27 riders in the final 250 Class moto.

While a win wasn't in the cards for the day, Baggett made the most of his efforts and is still a player in the 250 Class championship.
Baggett will be presented with the Ricky Carmichael Hard Charger Award at this Saturday's pre-race riders meeting prior to the Toyota Trucks Thunder Valley National, providing well-deserved recognition for his efforts in front of his peers.

Corser recovering but out for Brno

Troy was able to leave the hospital soon after and is now recovering at home. In ten days he will undergo further examinations to see how the healing of the bones and the wound progresses. It is expected that he will be back to full recovery within some weeks' time, but he will miss the next round of the FIM Superbike World Championship at Brno on 8th to 10th July.
Bernhard Gobmeier, BMW Motorrad Motorsport Director, declared: "The whole team wishes Troy a speedy recovery and we are happy to hear that the surgery went so well. But we have decided that he will definitely not ride at the next round at Brno as his health and safety have highest priority for us. We will then see how his recovery progresses and will decide at a later time if he will participate at the British round at Silverstone end of July. If we will replace Troy by another rider at Brno is not decided yet. Troy is a part of our BMW family and for us the most important thing is that he recovers well and is back to full fitness as soon as possible. We will do anything we can do from our side to support him during his recovery."

Motorland Aragon - Statistics
WorldSBK.com takes a quick look at the stats, the facts and the figures from the seventh round of the FIM Superbike World Championship, the Spanish Round at Motorland Aragon.
? Maiden pole position for Marco Melandri, the 56th rider in history to start from the top spot. In his short Superbike career Marco has never started lower than ninth and he is at his third straight front row start. In race two he recorded his maiden fastest race lap;

? best grid spot for Leon Camier, third, for the first time on the front row;

? Marco Melandri and Max Biaggi were first and second (and swapped places in the second race): the last time that two Italian riders finished first and second (Fabrizio Pirovano and Piergiorgio Bontempi) was at the 1993 Estoril round and since the 1989 Donington weekend that two different Italians won both races: at the time Fabrizio Pirovano and Giancarlo Falappa;

? after eight second places, Max Biaggi was able to score his first season win, the fifteenth in his career and the twentieth for Aprilia;

? podium number 30 for Carlos Checa in race two: with his crash in race one Carlos saw a sequence of four wins and sixteen races in the points come to an end. It's the first crash for him since last year's second Nurburgring race;

? for Jakub Smrz this was a fourth crash in a row: at Misano and Aragon he has only run seventeen laps out of 78;

? hard times also for Troy Corser, with a third retirement in the last four races, as well as a missed start in Misano race two;

? in race two Joan Lascorz equalled his best career result: fifth, obtained for the first time at Donington and for the first time he qualified inside the top-10 in seventh;

? 300th start for Noriyuki Haga in race two and 100th for Leon Haslam;
? in Supersport Broc Parkes scored his twelfth pole - after a gap of three years - reaching Paolo Casoli, Fabien Foret and Kenan Sofuoglu in the all-time third spot. At the top of the standings is Sbastien Charpentier with 22;

? Chaz Davies scored Yamaha's 50th win, Honda leads the way with 83;

? total domination in Superstock 600 by Jed Metcher, who scored pole, win, fastest lap and led the whole race: a similar feat hasn't been recorded since the 2008 Donington race (Marco Bussolotti).
2011 Assen MotoGP FP1 Result: Simoncelli Tops Rain-Soaked Session
Marco Simoncelli has topped the first session of free practice for the MotoGP class at Assen, but all eyes were on Valentino Rossi and the new Ducati GP11.1. The first impression of the bike is that it works well, Rossi being either at or near the top of the timesheets all session, but given the soaking nature of the track, it is hard to tell how much of that is Rossi and how much is the new Ducati. Rossi did at least finish ahead of his bitter rival, Casey Stoner, the Repsol Honda rider being a little over a tenth slower than the Italain, while Stoner's Repsol teammate Andrea Dovizioso clocked the 4th fastest time. Jorge Lorenzo was the last man inside a second of Simoncelli, over a third of a second slower than Dovizioso.
The chance of rain during this afternoon's session of free practice is much lower, offering the tantalizing prospect of some dry track time. But this is Assen, and with nothing between the track and the North Sea but a few rows of trees and miles and miles of flat fields, the wind brings rain showers in fast here, so that could all change.

FTR Boss Speaks On 2011 Moto2 Season, Partnership With Norton, And 2012 MotoGP Entries
The introduction of the Moto2 class has allowed a raft of new companies to either enter or expand their role in the MotoGP paddock. With engine manufacturers taken out of the equation - at least for the time being - the focus on chassis has opened up opportunities for engineering firms such as FTR, Kalex and Suter to spread their wings. And with bigger changes coming in 2012 - the introduction of the so-called Claiming Rule Teams or CRTs, featuring production-based engines in prototype chassis, and Moto3, with cost-limited 250cc four-strokes in prototype chassis - the independent engineering firms will become an even bigger part of Grand Prix racing.
FTR has today announced in a press release - or rather, publicly admitted - that they are looking at greatly expanding their presence in the Grand Prix paddock. Their partnership with Norton to produce a 1000cc MotoGP bike (building a chassis for a 1000cc V4 engine prepared by Pr1mo Racing) has been talked about for several weeks now, though Norton is still facing hurdles before being accepted on the grid. Regardless of the difficulties surrounding a full-time MotoGP grid slot, the bike will also be raced at next year's Isle of Man Senior TT.
