MotoGP Assen race report – Rossi is back!

Valentino Rossi takes first MotoGP victory since 2010, while Jorge Lorenzo amazingly finishes fifth with broken collarbone

The Yamaha Factory Racing team had one of its better races at the historic Assen circuit this weekend. For one, Valentino Rossi scored his first victory since Sepang back in 2010, a win drought that would have any rider doubting whether he’d be able to take the top podium step again. After a dismal two years struggling to get the Ducati competitive, Rossi came back to the factory Yamaha squad hoping to rekindle the feeling he had in his previous tenure with the team where he won four MotoGP World Championships. A quick start to the year where he finished on the podium at Qatar quickly became a distant memory as Rossi began to falter when he discovered that the M1 wasn’t quite like it was in the old days, having now been designed around Lorenzo. The Italian also admitted that the level of competition had risen since his previous time on the Yamaha.
