Lombardi opens up STK600 battle

078_r08_lombardi_podiumThe Brno weekend was the scene for a number of ?firsts' including a win for Dino Lombardi in the European Superstock 600 Championship. The Yamaha Martini Corse rider concluded the Czech Round on the top slot, where he had been for virtually the entire three days. This first win in the category for the rider from Benevento in southern Italy coincided with a disastrous weekend for points leader Romain Lanusse (Yamaha MRS Racing France) and Australian Jed Metcher (Honda MTM-RT Motorsports), who both crashed out in the early stages, and this result allowed Lombardi to move up into second place, ten points behind the Frenchman in the table.

"I knew I could go well here" declared Lombardi. "I like the track, I was in good shape and my technicians gave me a perfect bike. I want to dedicate this win to my team, to my family, my sponsors and all my fans who at every race, at every podium, are always by my side living me support. Now I want the title."

The Italian, after a great start from pole, immediately managed to pull away in the early laps. In the final stages however he was put under pressure by Josh Day (Racedays Kawasaki), Tomas Krajci (Yamaha TK Racing Slovakia) and Gauthier Duwelz (Honda MTM-RT Motorsports), but held on to take the chequered flag for the win.

With the title battle now wide-open, Lombardi will be called upon for a repeat performance at Silverstone, the scene for round 6 from 29 to 31 July.
