Motorcycle Riding Moments | Just Ride | Stop Watch
Motorcycle Riding Moments - Sport Rider Magazine
We, as sportbike riders, can easily lose track of why we ride.

One day shortly after I had gotten my license to ride on the street, I hopped on my brother’s Honda CB400F, rode to the end of the driveway and turned right. At the first intersection, I turned left. Then right, left, and so on. My only goal for the ride was to keep to that pattern and see where it led me. This was in the days well before cell phones and GPS, but I wasn’t too worried about getting lost. My hometown in the corner of southwestern Ontario, Canada, is pretty much surrounded by the Great Lakes; I wouldn’t get too far before hitting water, and then it would be a simple matter of following the coastline to somewhere familiar.

There?s Nothing Wrong With Restarts

I’ve got to be honest, I don’t understand why there has been so much discussion this week about restarts. The rules are really pretty clear. The green flag waves, the leader can go between the two lines, you can’t beat the leader to the line, and don’t change lanes before the start/finish line. Seems pretty [...]

The Tattletale Issue

Let me just say this first: I don’t care that somebody threw the Penske guys under the bus. There, I said it. (Cue the “you work for Hendrick” trolling in 3…2…1…) Last week, after both Penske cars were busted by NASCAR at Texas for some creative rear-end components, Jenna Fryer wrote that NASCAR may have [...]

Palmer shows off video of his first time back on the bike after knee surgery - GEICO AMA EnduroCross News Release

Irvine, CA (April 25, 2012) – If you have ever been to a GEICO AMA EnduroCross event or watched one on TV, you have probably noticed Wild Wally Palmer. He is a madman on the track that always gives it 100% and typically catches more air than anybody. And in spite of some ugly crashes that led to a destroyed knee in 2011, he made it to every event and continued to attract more fans along the way. He literally used duct tape to hold his knee together at the Everett Washington event and still qualified for the main event on his two wheel drive Christini.

After the Vegas finals in November, Palmer finally got a much needed knee surgery and is just now back on a Trials bike to start getting ready for the Las Vegas opening round coming up inside the Orleans Arena on Friday, May 4th. He sent over a link to this video showing some POV action at his EnduroCross practice track along with this note; “I’m going to start riding a big bike on Thursday for the first time since the last EnduroCross. My leg is feeling good. Here is the track I made that is pretty close to the Vegas track map. I even made the over and under bridge. Check it out!” Here is the link: http://youtu.be/y-kua3pgXyg

If you are planning a trip to see the Monster Energy Supercross finals in Las Vegas, then make sure that you come in a day early to catch the GEICO AMA EnduroCross by Lucas Oil championship opener, which is an X Games Qualifier. If you have never watched one in person, you will be blown away by the obstacles and intense racing action.

Getting More Money: Gresini Working To Build Relationships With Sponsors

For the past five years, the world of MotoGP has been obsessed with cost-cutting, introducing a range of measures aimed at reducing the expense involved in racing. Unfortunately - and unsurprisingly - many of the actions meant to cut costs have done nothing of the sort, saving money in one area only to increase spending in others.

The real solution to MotoGP's malaise is of course a monetary one. If money is in short supply in the series, then what is needed are efforts to raise yet more money. Only be increasing sponsorship will the sport start to grow again.

Yesterday, the Gresini team issued a press release showing they are taking initiative in this area. The Gresini Racing team organized a special two-day sponsorship event, to which they invited all of their official sponsors, to give them an opportunity to network. Afterwards, the Gresini team pronounced the event a success, further helping to cement partnerships with their sponsors.

Silly Season Update: Scott Redding's Prospects, Yamaha's Leased Engines, And Who Will Buy A Honda?

The Dutch TT at Assen looks like being a very busy few days for everyone looking for a ride next year. The end of June has been earmarked as a deadline for all sorts of negotiations, from rider contracts to bike projects. Decisions will be made and contracts - or at least letters of intent - will be signed. A lot of paperwork should get done by the time the trucks roll out of the paddock on Sunday, heading for Germany and the Sachsenring.

Though most of the prototype rides are already wrapped up, there are still a few seats open, and some interesting and major changes could be on the way. The focal point for the future, and the key to all of the moves for next year is Scott Redding. The young Briton has raised his game in 2013, elevating himself to both the favorite for the 2013 Moto2 title, and hot property for MotoGP next season. Redding's prospects went from a possible ride on a Honda production racer with Marc VDS, on a relatively limited budget, to factories reconsidering their current contracts to see if they can make room for the Gloucestershire youngster.

Redding's options are still very open, the only limit the existing contracts the factories have. All three manufacturers would be keen to get their hands on him, with Ducati the current favorite to secure his services. Yamaha's hands are perhaps most tied, especially as Cal Crutchlow appears to be drawing ever closer to renewing his contract with the Tech 3 team, possibly including some kind of additional support from the factory. Redding could only join Yamaha if Bradley Smith could be persuaded to step aside, but the Englishman's contract looks to be pretty watertight so far.

MotoGP Mugello race report – Lorenzo wins, Rossi crashes

MotoGP Mugello race report – Lorenzo wins, Rossi crashes
MotoGP Mugello race report – Sport Rider Magazine
Jorge Lorenzo takes his second victory of 2013, with Dani Pedrosa second; Valentino Rossi crashes in third corner after collision with Alvaro Bautista

Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo managed to slip underneath a fast-starting pole-sitter Dani Pedrosa in the first turn of the 2013 MotoGP race at Mugello, and then methodically managed his lead to pull away and take his third consecutive victory at the Florentine circuit in Italy on Sunday. While Lorenzo and his Repsol Honda rival waged their battle up front, there was considerable excitement behind as several riders crashed in separate incidents. First to fall were Lorenzo’s teammate Valentino Rossi and GO&FUN Honda Gresini’s Alvaro Bautista, with both riders going down in the third turn of the first lap after colliding.
