Kawasaki's Tom Sykes just misses double win at the Assen World Superbike round by 0.089 seconds in Race Two
Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes proved the team’s ZX-10R superbike now has the race pace to back up its practice/qualifying performance by dominating World Superbike Race One at the Assen circuit in the Netherlands, and coming within a whisker of winning Race Two. The British rider grabbed the lead on the first lap of Race One and pulled away to win by almost nine seconds over Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea, who came out on top of a spirited battle with Sylvain Guintoli on his factory Aprilia. Guintoli’s teammate Eugene Laverty ran second for a good portion of the race, but eventually faded to fourth, while Sykes’ Kawasaki teammate Loris Baz was charging to finally finish fifth.
