Two-year TV agreement with the CBS Sports Network starting with Road America in June to include live broadcasts of some races

After being unceremoniously dropped from the Speed/Fox Sports 1 channel lineup after the initial broadcast of the Daytona Bike Week races in March, AMA Pro Roadracing formally announced today that it has reached a two-year agreement with CBS Sports Network to broadcast the remaining races on the 2013 schedule, as well as the 2014 season. To be showcased as part of the network’s “CBS Sports Spectacular” series, the network is said to be airing “flag-to-flag race coverage of the premier National Guard Superbike and GoPro Daytona Sportbike classes through the 2014 season.” Programming will begin on Saturday, June 1, at 2:30pm EST with a 30-minute preview show that will “get fans up to speed with on-site coverage of qualifying sessions, highlights from previous rounds, as well as vignettes on the history of the sport and the technical aspects of motorcycle road racing. Hosted by a panel of industry experts, the show will provide insider insight on the latest paddock news, as well as interviews with riders and celebrity guests,” according to the press release. Then live coverage of the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin will follow at 3:00pm EST.

Race Recap: 2013 Bahrain Grand Prix follows the template of this year and last [spoilers]

The sand, the wind, the penalties, the contact and the one crash - all of them collided to make the Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix a surprise affair from day to day and lap to lap. Oh, and did we mention the tires? Pirelli made a last-minute swap after the amusement park ride that the Chinese Grand Prix turned into with the soft compound tire, and brought medium and hard compounds to the desert. That didn't stop things from falling apart for some teams - literally - and that didn't stop the one team that seems to love the hard compound Pirelli tire.

Kawasaki's Tom Sykes just misses double win at the Assen World Superbike round by 0.089 seconds in Race Two

Kawasaki’s Tom Sykes proved the team’s ZX-10R superbike now has the race pace to back up its practice/qualifying performance by dominating World Superbike Race One at the Assen circuit in the Netherlands, and coming within a whisker of winning Race Two. The British rider grabbed the lead on the first lap of Race One and pulled away to win by almost nine seconds over Pata Honda’s Jonathan Rea, who came out on top of a spirited battle with Sylvain Guintoli on his factory Aprilia. Guintoli’s teammate Eugene Laverty ran second for a good portion of the race, but eventually faded to fourth, while Sykes’ Kawasaki teammate Loris Baz was charging to finally finish fifth.

Shoulder problems continue to plague Ignite Pramac Ducati rider, reportedly will be ready for Le Mans MotoGP in three weeks

Before the Austin MotoGP race at Circuit of the Americas last weekend, Texan homeboy Ben Spies was feeling pretty good, with his shoulder seemingly healing well from surgery that was required due to the separation injury that occurred in the Malaysian Grand Prix last year. But it was apparent that things weren’t quite right with the Ignite Pramac Ducati rider from the get-go, and after finishing a disappointed 13th in the CotA race, Spies cited severe pain that manifested itself during morning warmup, and despite the best efforts of the Clinica Mobile crew to therapeutically get him back up to full strength, made his race more of a survival feat than anything else.

Pata Honda targeting Dutch delight

Jonathan Rea

The Pata Honda team is heading to The Netherlands for this weekend's third round World Superbikechampionship races at the TT Circuit Assen. It's only a short journey to thecircuit for the Dutch team, which is based at the Ten Kate workshops in Nieuwleusen, just 60km to the south.

Both Pata Honda riders like the flowing Assen track and have enjoyed podium success there in recent years, with JonathanRea having taken at least one race win for the team in each of his last three visits to the historic 4.542km circuit.

Leon Haslam has enjoyed three World Superbike podiums of his own at Assen in recent years, including a double, withsecond and third-place finishes, in his last races on a Honda in 2009.

Jonathan Rea: "I'm looking forward to getting back on track there after our busy testing build-up to the last round in Spain. The boys have done a lot of work since Aragon and looked at a lot of data, so we've hopefullygot a few new settings to try this weekend, especially around the throttle connection. We'll start with free practice on Fridayto try and turn it into a competitive package for two 22-lap races on Sunday. I hope the weather is a bit more consistent thanit was last season but it would certainly be nice to get another good result at Assen."

Leon Haslam: "I'm really looking forward to getting on the bike again at Assen as we know that it goes wellthere from Johnny's results here. I like Assen, too, and finished twice on the podium the last time I was here on the HondaCBR. We made a lot of progress with the bike during our testing in Spain but it was unfortunate that we had some issueswhich affected our race weekend at Aragon. Assen has corner characteristics that suit our chassis and there's no longstraight, so we're hoping for better results this time out."

Lima Family Recovery Fund Press Release

Friends,
We are reaching out to you to keep our friend and fellow motorcycle aficionado and shop owner Paul Lima in your prayers and to help Paul and his family in this time of extraordinary tragedy and hardship.

lima family, lima family recovery fund, lima family recovery fund, dirt rider magazine,

Paul Lima built GP Motorcycles, a dealership of the finest European brands, from the ground up. Fueled by his fervent passion for motorcycles, Paul has provided exceptional service to thousands of friends and customers across the country. For almost two decades, Paul has always strived to make sure all his customers had the best possible experience with GP Motorcycles, even if it meant putting the best interest of his business aside. Introducing people to the motorsports lifestyle, sharing the experience, and creating new enthusiasts have always been the aim of Paul and GP Motorcycles.

Paul never hesitated to go the extra mile to represent the brands and products he regularly enjoyed, himself. Whether on the racetracks around the country, at trade shows or in the local community, there was no denying Paul's passion and commitment to the brands he showcased with such genuine enthusiasm.

lima family, lima family recovery fund, dirt rider magazine,

As many of you know, on April 4, 2012, Paul suffered a tragic accident while enjoying his passion. Paul had terrible crash on a motocross track and fractured bones in his lower back, and as a result of the accident, he is now paralyzed in both legs.

Paul recovered remarkably well from a 9-hour surgery to realign and stabilize his back, and he is now undergoing therapy and training at a rehabilitation center to get adjusted to his new life. While everyone prays for a full recovery, the prognosis is unfortunately not very promising. The doctors have given their normal, safe, low-percentage probability of gaining any meaningful sensation in his legs, but for those of you who know Paul, that small percentage is all he needs.

Friends, it is now time for us to help Paul!

This is an incredibly difficult time for Paul, his wife, his two children and everyone close to him. There are many physical and psychological challenges that lay ahead for Paul, and the best we can do for him and his family is help pave a path across this arduous terrain that he must now find his way across.

lima family, lima family recovery fund, dirt rider magazine,

Paul does have medical coverage. However, there will be many additional expenses not covered by his insurance. There will be family expenses, such as home remodeling, a specialty vehicle, and hired help. There will be additional rehabilitation programs and/or medical procedures not covered by his medical insurance. In order to create an environment that gives him the best chance for recovery, Paul Lima and his family need our help.

We have set up a bank account as well as a PayPal account to accept donations for the benefit of the Lima family. Please show your generosity and contribute so Paul can get the best treatment available, and so that his family at GP Motorcycles can welcome him back as soon as possible.

Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport tackles Fuji Speedway - in car camera screencap

From the same guys who brought us video of a street-legal Porsche 962C driving through the streets of Japan comes this latest video showing Le Mans-winning pro driver, Seiji Ara, lapping Fuji Speedway in a Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport. Most of the video centers around Ara's impressions, but there is plenty of great video showing the supercar carving up the track's numerous turns and blasting along its lengthy front straightaway.

Ara says this is the most powerful car he's ever driven, so we imagine it was as much for fun for him to drive as it is for us to watch. During the drive, the camera provides a sense of what it's like to pilot the Veyron on such a challenging track, and you can hear its turbos and wastegates getting a workout. Scroll down to watch this well-shot, well-edited video of Ara and the Veyron lapping Fuji Speedway. Oh, and be sure to stick around for the end, as there's a bonus three-way drag race you won't want to miss.

Del Torchio leaves Ducati to be CEO of struggling Alitalia Airlines; veteran Domenicali named to replace him

Ducati officially confirmed the rumors today that Gabriele Del Torchio (left in above photo) will be leaving his position as CEO of Ducati Motor Holding, and will be replaced by company stalwart Claudio Domenicali (right in photo). Several European business media outlets had reported yesterday that Del Torchio had been in talks to head struggling Alitalia Airlines, the national airline of Italy that has been hanging by a financial thread for many years after continual problems that eventually resulted in a bankruptcy filing in August of 2008. Alitalia announced Del Torchio’s appointment as CEO at the same time as Ducati’s press release.

Domenicali has been with Ducati 21 years, and has played a very influential role in the company’s direction. Among other achievements, Domenicali was widely credited with helping former general manager Massimo Bordi bring his acclaimed Supermono single-cylinder racebike from concept to reality. Domenicali took over as head of the Ducati Corse racing department in 1999, helping guide it to numerous World Superbike championships. He has since been steadily moving upward in the company ranks, becoming R&D director in 2005, and being appointed General Manager of Operations and Product Development four years later.

Domenicali’s appointment also puts to rest speculation by some of the media that Audi (owners of Ducati) would be moving yet another German into a management position at the Bologna firm. Much of this was based on former MotoGP director Fillipo Preziosi being replaced by former BMW Superbike director Bernhard Gobmeier late last year.

Rutledge Wood Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race

Rutledge Wood took home the checkered flag at this year's Toyota Pro/Celebrity race at the Grand Prix of Long Beach. The Top Gear USA presenter, Fox Sports commentator and Honda Wagovan owner managed to take pole position in qualifying, but lost his lead early in the race to Mark Steines. Steines has competed in the Pro/Celebrity race four times so far, but the Hallmark channel host of Home and Family couldn't quite hold on to the lead. Wood eventually made up the ground he had lost for the win. This year, all the participants went fender to fender in identically prepared Scion FR-S racers.

Meanwhile, Adam Carolla took first in the Pro category, and Toyota donated $5,000 on behalf of each participant to Racing for Kids. The charity benefits children's hospitals in the Long Beach area, and this year Toyota donated a total of $90,000. Check out the full press release below for more information.

Chaz Davies

A Sunday to remember for Chaz Davies, who repeated first race success and got a double race win at Aragon. The BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK Team rider was unstoppable under MotorLand Aragon heat and crossed the finish line with a big margin over Sylvain Guintoli, still Championship leader after race 2.

A race day to forget for second works Aprilia rider Eugene Laverty, who lost the front of his RSV4 on the opening lap of the race at Turn 2, straight after getting the holeshot ahead of Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team): 2012 WSBK runner-up was 3rd at the chequered flag after pulling away from a tenacious Davide Giugliano (Althea Racing Aprilia).

Fifth place for Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad GoldBet), not as competitive as in race 1 but still able to finish ahead of Loris Baz (Kawasaki Racing Team) and Jules Cluzel (FIXI Crescent Suzuki). Both French riders had an outstanding Race 2, as Baz started from the last position on the grid and Cluzel moved off from the pit lane. The List #0071: Compete in a Demolition Derby

Jessi's going solo this week as we check off another oft-requested item from our list of 1,001 Car Things To Do Before You Die. The task this time is to compete in a demolition derby, so Ms. Combs took herself to one of Southern California's county fairs where this time-honored tradition is still a celebrated motorsport.

With a car supplied by derby veteran Stan "Mac" McDonald, Jessi was able to enter the field of 14 rust buckets, clunkers and mangled machines competing that night. The battle field was a 7,500-square-foot patch of earth in the center of an arena that was bordered on all sides by dirt mounds. Her strategy? Put it in Reverse and mash the throttle. As it turns out, competing in the derby is a lot different than watching from the stands, and Jessi's night wouldn't go as she expected. Scroll down to watch what happened.
