Husaberg Factory rider Mike Lafferty put in an impressive 6th place finish at the eleventh round of the GNCC Series held in Somerset, PA.
The rocky Pennsylvania course proved perfectly suited for Lafferty and his technical skill set. The Husaberg rider got a great jump off the start but slid out in the second corner of the race. He picked up his bike in dead last position and put in the most amazing lap of the day to come from last position to leading the group as they neared the one lap mark. The rocky terrain was not a stumbling block for Lafferty who showed his blazing speed early on the race to pass every rider before the completion of the first lap. Suzuki rider Josh Strang was able to move around Lafferty to take over the lead position just as they crossed the one lap check point while Lafferty remained in 2nd.
Behind Lafferty was a train of four other riders including Kailub Russell, Charlie Mullins, Nate Kanney and Paul Whibley all fighting for that lead position. Lafferty dropped to 6th place on the second lap and remained close to the top five riders. On the third lap, Lafferty began complaining of a stomach cramp that slowed him down during the middle of the race.
Lafferty, who switched to the Husaberg TE250 two-stroke machine for this event, spoke wonders about the bike after the race. "It was so light and easy to handle throughout the whole race. In rocky events, it is very hard to hold on for three hours and riding this lightweight bike made it easier to get through the tight sections while also causing less fatigue on my arms."
Lafferty held his 6th place position for the next five laps to finish 6th overall for the day over seven minutes ahead of the 7th place ride of Rory Mead. The sixth place result marks Lafferty's second best GNCC finish this season. He plans to race the remainder of the GNCC Series as well as the final National Enduro on his TE250 two-stroke.
