Friday practice report and results from the 2011 MotoGP at Jerez, Spain, with Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa continuing their domination by finishing one-two

Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa continued their hot pace and Honda’s domination from Qatar by leading Friday’s two free practice sessions on a windy but sunny day at the Jerez circuit in Spain. Incredibly, both Stoner and Pedrosa are already under the circuit lap record of 1:39.731 set by the Spaniard last year, and they did it in the morning practice. The majority of the quicker times were set in the morning practice, where conditions were better than the gusty winds and higher track and ambient temperatures that affected the afternoon session. Although Pedrosa’s left arm issues are most likely going to affect him in the race, that doesn’t seem to be hindering his continuing duel with his Australian teammate for supremacy in the Repsol Honda squad.

“Yeah, not too bad for us,” said Stoner of his crew’s first day’s work at Jerez. “The first session went pretty well. We had a pretty good feeling with the bike; we tried to improve that for the second session, but unfortunately the conditions weren’t perfect. It was quite windy so we couldn’t really get a consistent feeling with the bike although our lap times weren’t too bad. We felt we could’ve gone quite a bit faster in the last session, but we changed the air pressure in the rear tire and something else on the front, and it really wasn’t the right direction, so I’m a little bit disappointed we didn’t make a step forward then. But in general, both bikes that we tried seemed to work pretty well, and we’ll continue from there tomorrow, because the last change we made wasn’t really a big improvement. But considering the conditions and way everything’s going, yeah, we’re quite happy.”
