Cal Crutchlow (Yamaha Sterilgarda) had en eventually lonely win, by 3.779 seconds, in the first race at Magny-Cours but an intense battle behind went to Leon Haslam (Suzuki Alstare) and Carlos Checa (Althea Racing Ducati) as they passed Max Biaggi (Aprilia Alitalia) for the final podium places in the final chicane. In fourth Biaggi still scored enough points to give Aprilia the manufacturers' Championship.
