baja 500, honda racing, dirt rider magazine,

JCR/Honda offer's first-class racing support to Honda mounted riders at every SCORE Baja race in a program called "JCR/Honda Pits," first started by American Honda in the 1980's. The program has become an essential component for Honda mounted Baja competitors because the speed and efficiency of a pit stop can make or break your race. A Baja 1000 can require up to 22 pit stops, roughly 60 miles apart. Each pit provides services to an average of 50 teams over the course of a race, and the pits contain an assortment of spare parts and maintenance items, as well as fuel. Pit crews are staffed by as many as six qualified personnel. Many of the pit crews stay on duty for 16 hours or more, sometimes as long as 30 hours when needed. The dedication of the JCR/Honda pit staff is legendary. Known as the most reliable and efficient Pit service along the peninsula. This service enables the average riders to the most competitive teams to race the SCORE races with confidence.

KTM 1290 Super Duke R Prototype

Behold the KTM 1290 Super Duke R Prototype in all its glory. The Austrian motorcycle manufacturer showed off its newest concept at the 2012 EICMA International Motorcycle Show, and it boasts an extra 100cc of displacement over the LC8 mill in the 1190 RC8 R on which the prototype is based. That means there's a full 180 horsepower on hand to kick you down the track, and given the impressive efforts at weight saving engineers implemented on the concept, something tells us the sprint to 60 mph will take no time at all.

KTM hasn't released a specific curb weight, but the 1290 Duke R Prototype features a chrome-molybdenum steel tube frame, a light-weight alloy single-sided swing arm and lightened alloy wheels. That's fun and all, but not nearly so interesting as the way this bike sounds. With that big V-Twin barking through an Akrapovic exhaust, the bike sounds like a 55-gallon drum full of lionesses on meth. Check it out in the video below.

There was something rather perfect about my last flight of the 2012 Formula 1 season. It departed from Gate “F1″ at Hartsfield?Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. Jerez WSBK And Ducati MotoGP Test Day 3 Times: Laverty And Sykes Faster Than Hayden

Ducati's WSBK and MotoGP riders have joined some of the World Superbike men at Jerez as testing continues, offering an interesting comparison between the two series. Somewhat unsurprisingly, the fastest time was set by a World Superbike rider, Eugene Laverty taking top spot on the factory Aprilia, having already spent two previous days on the track. Tom Sykes ended the day in 2nd, the Kawasakis once again running without transponders, while Nicky Hayden ended with the 3rd fastest time on his first day of testing aboard the Ducati GP13 Desmosedici MotoGP machine. Hayden was two thirds of a second behind Laverty, but it is the American's first day back in the saddle, and the Ducati MotoGP bike has notoriously struggled around the Jerez circuit. Hayden was within three tenths of his qualifying time from earlier in the year.

Michele Pirro continues to impress as Ducati test ride, once again going faster than Andrea Iannone. Meanwhile, the Ducati Panigale clearly has a lot of work left to be done, Carlos Checa nearly three seconds slower than Laverty on the Aprilia. Slowest man of the day was Andrea Dovizioso, though he rode very little due to neck problem, his neck having locked up solid after making an unexpected motion.

The riders return to the track again on Thursday.

Ford Falcon GT becomes Australia's most powerful police car ever

Ford Falcon GT Police Car

The highway patrol in New South Wales, Australia has a new toy. As part of a community outreach program, it has added a Ford Falcon GT to its stable of pursuit vehicles. Though the car has been fitted with the lights, radio and speed-monitoring tech of its more common cruisers, officers intend use the car more to reach out to young motorsports fans than to run down baddies. So far, it seems to be working. Police took the sedan to the Sydney Dragway at Eastern Creek, and the supercharged Falcon GT had no problem drawing a crowd.

As you may recall, the Falcon GT is the most powerful vehicle to ever roll out of Ford Australia. The four-door boasts 450 horsepower from the factory, though the pursuit model makes closer to 536 hp thanks to tweaks like a new fuel map and free-flowing exhaust. Throw in all of the law-enforcement tech, and this car has a final price tag of over $105,000 at current conversion rates.

Party sponsored by Lamborghini tried to airlift yacht into Austin lake for F1 race

This was the kind of understatement we didn't expect to encounter in the Lone Star State: on our way into Austin to attend the Grand Prix of the Americas, the man sitting next to us on the plane - an Austinite born and raised - said, "There's gonna be a lot of wealthy people here." You know, as if Texas didn't have its fair share already.

Wealthy people need wealthy things to do and not-as-wealthy people to arrange such things for them. Case in point is My Yacht Club, which follows the Formula 1 parade and other rah-rah events around the globe, hosting guests and parties on yachts. In Austin the event group has had to change its schtick; there's no way to navigate one 150-foot motor yacht into Austin's Lady Bird Lake. MYC principal Nicholas Frankl told KUT News, "We spoke to the Army Air Corps. They couldn't lift it." We believe he meant the Army Corps of Engineers, but no matter, they couldn't lift it either.

So MYC has switched to a land-lubbers venue, The Long Center where Ballet Austin, the opera and the symphony perform. In case you readers are worried about how guests will manage without chiseled Italian deckhands in epaulets, not only has Frankl promised that "the elements of decadence and luxury and coolness and exclusivity are all there," guests will get to guzzle 24-karat gold-infused champagne. Because the stars at night just aren't as big and bright without it, obviously.

Austria's Linortner makes it four in PTR line-up

David Linortner

David 'Lino' Linortner, one of the most promising young racers from Austria, will join PTR in the World Supersport Championship in 2013. The 21-year-old has incredible raw speed and ability, proved when he took an eighth place at the Nurburgring round of WSS in 2012 as a wild card rider (photo).

A multiple race winner in the IDM Supersport Championship in Germany, his rise through the ranks has been meteoric and with PTR he has high ambitions in the World Championship, especially as he will be bringing his long time trusted mechanic Bernd Klockmann to the PTR team as his chassis technician.

Lino joins Imre Toth, Luca Marconi and Nacho Calero at PTR Honda in the prestigious World Supersport Championship. PTR's final rider will be announced shortly.

Lino: "At the end of the season there were different opportunities and situations in conversation and we looked at different options in the STK-1000 and World Supersport. My target was the Supersport World Championship, so I am very happy that my sponsors have opted for this route. PTR Honda is one of the most successful World Supersport teams in recent years; I am sure I will have a very competitive package in 2013. I will meet the Team for the first time at the end of January in the first test in Spain - I can hardly wait to ride the PTR Honda. Only one month later, I start at the first race in Australia."

Simon Buckmaster, PTR Team Manager: "We are very excited with Lino and his potential. He has already proved to be a top eight finisher and we are confident that Lino and the PTR Honda will be a strong package. He has a lot to learn and it won't be easy but he has the talent to go far and we want to help take him as high up the results sheet as possible."

NASCAR The Game: Inside Line [w/video]

Gentlemen, Stop Your Engines - New NASCAR Title Is Not Impressive

Typically, when we receive a copy of a new video game to review, diving into and documenting the online/multiplayer aspects of it proves challenging. There are a few reasons for this: We're generally playing the game before or right after it has gone on sale, which really limits the number of folks playing online, but in the case of NASCAR The Game: Inside Line, we're happy that we got some playtime in on Xbox Live to start our test.

Online gamers not only had strong first opinions about this NASCAR game versus the last one, but also proved pretty knowledgeable about the sport in general.

That's not because the online racing in this all-new NASCAR title from Eutechnyx is particularly compelling (in fact it's neither more nor less flawed than the single-player portion of the game), but rather because the people playing online are some of the best subject matter experts that we could have hoped to find for this review. At least on Day One of the release of Inside Line, the online lobbies were filled to brimming with gamers that not only had strong first opinions about this NASCAR game versus the last one (2011's NASCAR The Game), but who also proved pretty knowledgeable about the sport in general.

There was a lot of talk about the overall handling of the racecars and the effectiveness of bump drafting on high-speed banked turns, for instance. Our co-racers in that first session seemed to agree that Inside Line had added detail in areas of the game that weren't critical to a positive core racing experience (detailed effects for crash scenes and a more comprehensive pit lane menu, for instance), while making the driving dynamics twitchier with a great many more crashes happening overall. In short, they weren't loving it.

The results, for the NASCAR gaming faithful, and for us, was an experience that wasn't all that much fun most of the time.

Corona, CA - April 26, 2012 - Husqvarna Motorcycles North America (HMNA) is proud to introduce Kyle Redmond and Cory Graffunder as members of the Husqvarna factory race team. Slated to contest the 2012 AMA EnduroCross championship, Redmond and Graffunder are counting down the days to the opening round of the eight-round series, which will once again feature the ESPN X Games.

Mounted aboard factory-backed Husqvarna TXC310s with additional backing from FMF Racing, Stillwell Performance and Dunlop, Graffunder and Redmond are ready to take on the 2012 AMA/GEICO EnduroCross series, which will kick off on May 4 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Cory Graffunder returns in 2012 as a Husqvarna EnduroCross racer. The Canadian regrettably spent the majority of last year out with a broken wrist, which he suffered in a crash only days before the Summer X Games. Fortunately he recovered in time for the last two rounds of the series, and was able to notch a podium finish at the 2011 season finale.

"It was probably the biggest disappointment of my life, getting injured and missing X Games," Graffunder said of last year's season. "I had a bad season last year but finished it on a good note. I just want to keep getting on the podium this year. I can't explain how excited I am to be heading into the series on a factory Husky. I'm really looking forward to qualifying for X Games, which I'm confident I can do."

Extreme enduro specialist Kyle Redmond is new to Husqvarna, and will be racing the AMA EnduroCross Series as well as select events such as the Tennessee Knock Out, Xtinction and Last Dog Standing. The California native is looking forward to stepping up his game on the factory-backed Husqvarna TXC310.

"The TXC310 definitely has a great motor," Redmond said. "We have a lot more power this year (as opposed to the 250F I was on last year) and we're working with some really great sponsors. Alan Stillwell with Stillwell Performance is dialing in our suspension and the bikes are working really great. We're ready to get the season started strong."

"We're all super excited about our factory Husqvarna EnduroCross team," said HMNA Product and Racing Manager Derek Sorenson. "We have two of the best extreme enduro riders in the world, and they've both proven that they are among the very few riders who are capable of reaching the podium in an EnduroCross."

"The new TXC310 is a great racing platform to begin with this year. Everything that was learned the last couple years in the World Enduro with the CH Racing team has been translated to the production bike, and fortunately for us here in the U.S., we're really reaping the rewards. We're looking forward to a landmark year for Husqvarna and can't wait to see our guys and the TXC310 on the podium."

Additional sponsors of the factory Husqvarna EnduroCross team include: FMF Racing, Troy Lee Designs, Stillwell Performance, Sidi, Dunlop, Enduro Engineering, GUTS Racing, PG Graphics, GPR, Rekluse, Dirt Tricks, Silkolene, X Brand, Warp 9, AME, DT1, TM Designworks, Super B and Resmarket, Inc.

Maverick Vinales Signs To Ride KTM With JHK Laglisse For 2013

The future of Maverick Viñales has at last been settled. Today, on the eve of a test aboard a KTM Moto3 machine at the Almeria circuit, Pablo Nieto, manager of the JHK T-Shirt Laglisse team, announced that the young Spanish sensation has signed to race for the team in 2013.
