Despite retirement announcement at yesterday’s press conference, Stoner once again dominates practice ahead of Pedrosa and Lorenzo; Spies fifth, Hayden 10th

Showing that his shock retirement announcement at the end of this season is having no bearing on his desire to win, Casey Stoner once again laid down the gauntlet for the rest of the MotoGP field at the Le Mans Bugatti circuit in France on Friday, with his lap set with eight minutes to go in the session being the only one in the 1:33 range, some 0.265 seconds ahead of Repsol Honda teammate Dani Pedrosa. Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo improved from his free practice in the morning to go third quickest in the afternoon, while Alvaro Bautista continued to impress at Le Mans with his fourth place on the timesheets. American Ben Spies is looking to rebound from a tough beginning to his season and was always with the lead group in the morning practice, and the Texan continued that momentum by coming a close fifth. Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden came ninth and tenth respectively on their factory Ducatis, following the satellite Aspar Ducati of Hector Barbera in eighth.
